This blog was created as an attempt to document our trip to South East Asia. The initial intention was to travel for at least a few months but the reality turned out to be less generous: the four of us are going for merely 4 weeks and we’ll probably only get a little bite of what we’d initially dreamt of seeing. But hey, we’re going to the other side of the world and we’re going to make the absolute most of it. Setting off from Edinburgh, Scotland, at the end of October 2011 we have an outline of an itinerary, no in-depth planning nor booking, except for the first night. Having a list of places we would like to visit and things we would like to do, we’ll be going with the flow. The author of the blog hasn’t yet informed all the participants of the journey that they feature in the blog and is hoping to surprise them once we get there.

Wspomnienia

Teraz pozostały nam już tylko zdjęcia i wspomnienia (ach, ten zapach duriana...). I o ile zdjęciami technicznie jestem w stanie się z czytelnikami podzielić, czynię to zresztą bardzo chetnie,  o tyle oddanie zapachu przy obecnie dostępnych technologiach przekazu jest niemożliwe (przynajmniej jeszcze nie). Może najpierw wytłumaczenie, czym durian w ogóle jest. Otóż durian to owoc, pochodzący z Azji Południowo-Wschodniej. Mimo słodkiego smaku brak jego popularności w Europie można prawdopodobnie wytłumaczyć wonią, jaką wydziela. Niektórzy przyrównują ją do zapachu rozkładających się na ulicy w trzydziestostopniwym upale śmieci, inni to zapachu fermentującego sera. Zapach ten jest, obiektywnie ujmując, tak przykry, że do wielu miejsc, chociażby szpitali czy hosteli, durian ma kategoryczny i oficjalny zakaz wstępu (albo wnosu)!
